CIG and the Government of Punjab Conducted Programme to Enhance Industrial Park Planning, Development, and Management

Chandigarh, 19 March

The Planning, Developing, and Managing Successful Industrial Parks Programme, jointly organised by the Chandler Institute of Governance (CIG), Singapore and the Punjab Small Industries and Export Corporation (PSIEC), was concluded recently. The virtual programme supported the enhancement of industrial park planning, development, and management strategies, and the improvement of the ease of doing business and job creation in the State of Punjab.

The training programme equipped PSIEC officers with the skills and competencies required for key parts of the development cycle of industrial parks, including visioning, feasibility, and planning; estate management; marketing and investment promotion; and inter-agency coordination.

The officials gained insights and international perspectives on industrial park development, from CIG’s resource expert Mr Lim Chin Chong. Formerly from JTC Corporation in Singapore, Mr Lim shared good practices accumulated from his decades of experience in industrial park development projects across Asia.

In his remarks during the closing ceremony, Mr J.S. Bhatia, Technical Consultant, PSIEC, thanked CIG for this collaboration:

“PSIEC is now in the process of building Hi-Tech Cycle Valley, Integrated Pharmaceutical Park and Electronics System Design Manufacturing Park. With the knowledge gained from the training sessions by our engineers and estate management professionals, I am sure they will be able to contribute to these projects.”

Mr J.S. Bhatia

Technical Consultant of Punjab Small Industries and Export Corporation

Mr Wu Wei Neng, Executive Director, CIG, emphasised CIG’s dedication to supporting governments. He added:

“CIG is a non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting governments in the important work that all of you do. This programme would not have been possible without PSIEC’s contribution, dedication and participation.”

Mr Wu Wei Neng

Executive Director of Chandler Institute of Governance

This inaugural virtual programme collaboration between CIG and PSIEC falls under the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Government of Punjab and CIG.

Ms. Tapinder Kaur Ghuman, Governance Fellow, Government of Punjab, who has been assisting in conceptualizing and organizing the training programme and working on the collaboration with CIG, thanked CIG for their co-operation in the capacity building of PSIEC officials.
