Clear all the pending cases of VAT and GST by June end: Taxation Commissioner tells officers

KK Yadav announces to launch massive drive for weeding out bogus firms

Reiterates zero tolerance against corruption

Chandigarh/ Jalandhar/ Ludhiana, April 29-

Taxation Commissioner Punjab Mr Kamal Kishor Yadav today directed the Taxation officers to refund all the pending cases of VAT and GST by end of June.

Chairing a meeting of the Taxation officers here at the GST Bhawan here today, the Taxation Commissioner said that this is need of the hour to give much needed reprieve to the traders across the state. Mr Yadav said that officers must clear pending cases of VAT and GST adding that he will be personally monitoring this work every week. He said that any laxity in this work is unwarranted and undesirable.

The Taxation Commissioner further announced that the department will soon start a major drive to weed out bogus firms in the state. He said that any such bogus firm which tries to evade tax through illegal means will be dealt with sternly. Mr Yadav said that every officer will be made accountable for operation of any bogus firm in the area under their jurisdiction.

Dwelling on another issue, the Taxation Commissioner said that every officer will ensure that Assessment cases are completed by end of September. He said that officers should not wait for the end of fiscal year and should rather complete it by the end of September by studying them meticulously. Mr Yadav said that the department will soon fix the monthly targets for every officer to complete their assessments.

The Taxation Commissioner further directed the officers enhance their field visits. He said that this helps department in acquainting itself with ground realities on one hand and streamlining the affairs pertaining to taxation on the other. Mr Yadav said that inspections are must for every officer and orders of department in this regard should be adhered to.

The Taxation Commissioner also said that inspections also need to be intensified for Deemed Approved RCs. He said that department will take strict notice of the failure of officers to do field inspections. Mr Yadav said that severest of severe action including issuance of show cause notice will be taken against the erring officers.

The Taxation Commissioner categorically said that stern action should be taken against the tax evaders. He said that pilferage of tax causes huge losses to state exchequer which is not at all tolerable adding that department will now further tighten noose against all tax evaders. Mr Yadav said that officers should ensure that no tax evader goes off the radar of the government.

The Taxation Commissioner also batted for early recovery of the pending arrears of taxes. He said that the officers must embark a major recovery drive for getting the arrears from the wilful defaulters. Mr Yadav said that this is need of hour for enhancing the tax collection in the state.

Welcoming new ideas for Tax reforms from the officers, the Taxation Commissioner said that new out of the box initiatives should be given for tax enhancement. He said that department will replicate such new and dynamic ideas by the officers at the state level too. Mr Yadav also said that department is working tirelessly to further improve tax collection in state.

Reiterating commitment of Zero tolerance against corruption, the Taxation Commissikner said that strict action will be taken against anyone found indulging in this. He said that the services to the people must be provided in a time bound manner without any inordinate delay. Mr Yadav also said that department will set a new benchmark in tax collection and service delivery.

The Taxation Commissioner also appealed all the traders to submit their due tax to government. He said that this tax is judiciously used for the developmental works in the state which makes the tax payers a part of this development. Mr Yadav also said that without support of tax payers the goal of development of state cannot be achieved.

On the occasion Additional Commissioners Mrs Brahmneet Kaur and Mr Ravneet Singh Khurana, Deputy Excise and Taxation Commissioner Mr Paramjit Singh and others were also present.
