New and Renewable Energy Minister Punjab, Dr. Raj Kumar Verka has announced all possible assistance for setting up of renewable energy projects in the state.
After approving a memorandum of understanding with Desh Bhagat University for a solar plant and biodegradable solid kitchen waste used for generating biogas, Dr. Verka said that in the present scenario the importance of solar energy has increased, so the state government has been emphasizing on the importance of solar energy projects. Chancellor of Desh Bhagat University, Mandi Gobindgarh, Dr. Zora Singh was also present during the signing of the MoU.
Dr. Verka also reviewed the ongoing projects of the PEDA. Mr. Navjot Pal Singh Randhawa, CEO , PEDA has informed cabinet minister about the major schemes / projects of PEDA. He said that PEDA has set up 1700 MW renewable energy related projects out of which, 970 MW are solar power projects. Mr. Randhawa also informed that PEDA is implementing more and more projects based on paddy straw. Twenty three projects with a total production capacity of 260 tons of CBG are under construction, including the largest CBG project in Asia with a capacity of 33.23 tons of compressed biogas (CBG) per day. The project will be commissioned in December, 2021 in Lehragaga tehsil.
Mr. Jaspal Singh, Additional Director, PEDA and OSD of Cabinet Minister, Mr. Aman Sharma were also present on the occasion.
