— DGP Punjab Dinkar Gupta holds high-level meeting to review ongoing Drive against Drugs

CHANDIGARH, May 16:

In order to further intensify the ongoing Drive Against Drugs, Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Dinkar Gupta, during a high-level virtual meeting on Sunday, directed all the Police Chiefs to launch a crackdown against the drug smugglers/suppliers in their concerned areas.

“Identify all top drug smugglers and the hotspots infamous for drugs smuggling in your concerned areas and launch a combing operation to nab all those selling/smuggling drugs,” said the DGP in a meeting, which was attended by all the senior Police Officials including ADGPs, IGsP, DIGs, CPs and SSPs.

He said that under the zero tolerance policy against the drugs, every Commissioner of Police (CP) and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) should not let the sale of drugs in their concerned jurisdictions.

The DGP also directed the Police officials to periodically conduct organised raids in Jails falling in their jurisdictions to break the Prison-Drugs nexus. He also ordered the District Chiefs to effectively forfeit the property of all the arrested drug smugglers so that their ill-gotten money could be recovered.

To effectively destroy the case property of drugs lying in the Malkhanas of Police Stations across Punjab, the DGP ordered Police Chiefs to make a proposal to destroy all the narcotics by July 31, 2021 as per the procedure.

DGP Gupta also asked the officials to arrest all the Proclaimed Offenders (POs) besides asking them to send detention proposals under the NDPS act so that action could be taken against kingpins.

Meanwhile, ADGP Special Task Force (STF)-cum-Internal Vigilance Cell (IVC) B Chandra Shekhar, while sharing details of various drug recoveries made by districts across the state during the period from January 01, 2021 to April 30, 2021 said that as many as 3073 FIRs have been registered under NDPS Act while 4160 persons have been arrested. He said that a total of 196 Kg Heroin, 2 Kg smack and 261 Kg opium was recovered in the last four months.
