LANG VILLAGE BECOMES AN EXAMPLE FOR DISPOSAL OF SOLID WASTE

Wet and Dry Garbage is Being Collected from House to House

Village Women Express Satisfaction Over Solid Waste Management for Keeping Village Streers Clean

Lang (Patiala), February 2:
Patiala district’s Village Lang has emerged as an example for other villages to dispose of household waste.  Under the Swachh Bharat Grameen Mission, the Gram Panchayat in collaboration with the Round Glass Organisation under MGNREGA has taken up the task of handling and disposing of the garbage in the village and managing the solid waste disposal as well as raising awareness among the people.  Foolproof arrangements have been made to dispose of the garbage.
Daljit Kaur, a resident of the village, said that the collection of garbage from their houses has made it easier for them so that they do not have to go outside to dump their garbage.  With this, they keep their home-made kitchen waste in a separate garbage bin and plastic and non-perishable garbage in another garbage bin.
While another resident Sandeep Kaur said that she is proud that she is helping to keep her village clean and tidy under this garbage management mission and she also thanked the Round Glass organization which provided her the dustbin and enabled them to dispose of their household waste in a clean manner.
Kulveer Singh, who collects garbage separately from the houses, said that he collects wet and dry garbage from the people’s houses separately and collects it in a special garbage dump set up outside the village, where  Compost is made from wet waste.  He said that the compost made here is used in nurseries or fields.  Dry waste, including plastic envelopes, is used for further recycling.
Village Sarpanch Balwinder Singh said that under the mission of ‘Har Ghar Pani Har Ghar Safai’, dry and wet garbage from around 250 houses in village Lang is collected separately and taken to the solid waste management site and  efforts are being made to collect garbage in the same manner from more houses.
Meanwhile, the A.D.C.  (Development) Dr.  Preeti Yadav said that work on waste management and wastewater management projects in the villages of the district was in full swing.
