MP Manish Tewari meets Railway Minister; Demands for connection of rail link to Balachaur & upgradation of Ropar railway station

Chandigarg/Ropar, August 25:

Member Lok Sabha from Sri Anandpur Sahib and former Union Minister Manish Tewari today called on Railway Minister Ashwani Vaishnav and demanded upgradation and improvement of projects related to Railway in his Lok Sabha constituency. These mainly included demands for connecting Balachaur with the railway link and upgradation of Ropar railway station.

During the meeting with the Railway Minister in Delhi, MP Manish Tewari said that Balachaur sub-division of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district has not been connected to the rest of the country by rail link since independence. This can be done in three ways, firstly by establishing a rail link from Garhshankar to Sri Anandpur Sahib, which has already been surveyed by the Railways; Second: Construction of Rail Link from Rahon to Ropar and Third: Construction of Rail Link from Rahon to Samrala, which has been re-surveyed and may have been stopped due to traffic problem.

Similarly, emphasizing on the need to improve the condition of Ropar railway station, MP Tewari said that it is an important city. Prestigious Indian Institute of Technology is also located here where students come to study from different parts of the country. But at present there is only one platform at Ropar due to which the passengers have to face a lot of problems. Due to single platform the accidents have taken place here therefore this Railway station needs to be modernized and upgraded,

Mr. Tewari said that due to above mentioned needs and problems there is urgent need to upgrade Ropar Railway station. He also stressed upon construction of a second railway platform at Ropar. Lok Sabha MP also demanded for stoppage of Jan Shatabdi and Hawda trains at Ropar, which is a long pending demand of the people.
