Naturally Treated Pond Water Being Used for Irrigation of Crops and Fish Farming
Ugani (Rajpura / Patiala), February 3:
With the reshaping of the pond at Ugani village in Rajpura Sub Division, the residents of the village are feeling blessed. The villagers say that the effluent of their village earlier used to damage the crops as well as kill the fishes in the aquaculture pond and spread the disease in the village, now the scenario has totally changed.
More than 70 houses in Ugani village, which has about 150 houses, are directly connected to the pond. When the pond of the village was in its earlier form, the TDS of the waste water falling into it was 868 and now getting treated its wastewater naturally with the Seechewal mode, the level has been reduced to 396. In this way the pond has become an example.
The pond treats 162 cubic meters of water per day and has a capacity of 1900 cubic meters. Established on September 20, 2020 with the help of Nabha Power Ltd (under its CSR activity), Department of Water Supply and Sanitation made this project possible at a cost of Rs. 20 lakhs, the new look of the pond now provides irrigation water to the crops and clean water to the nearby Fisheries Pond.
Jeet Singh, a resident of the village, said that after the renovation of the pond, Ugani has become the first in terms of cleanliness in and now villagers are not bothered by flies and mosquitoes and we are not at risk of diseases like before.
Another villager Amritpal Singh said that the renovation of his village pond was directly and indirectly benefiting his village. He said that this has saved the ground water table from falling day by day and on the other hand the dirty water of the village has started to be cleaned and rain water has also started to be stored.
The Sarpanch of the village Gurpreet Kaur said that the village had made the waste water of the houses usable for irrigation and other purposes by beautifying the appearance of the pond and making it odor free before passing the waste water through the screening chamber. So that the rough dirt can be cleaned from it.
This water is then passed through three deep wells in a circular motion so that the fine dirt can be removed. After this the water goes into the pond and becomes usable for drinking of cattles and irrigation including bathing of animals. The Sarpanch said that now after renovation, the pond was being used as a resort to keep the environment clean by planting trees around it.
