Ankur Warikoo is a serial entrepreneur, best-selling author, online educator, and content developer. Holding an ambition of being a Nasa scientist to becoming an entrepreneur cannot be easy for him. Ankur had a wonderful childhood and enjoyed every moment of it. They were a family of four: his mother, father, and six-year-old sister. He grew raised in Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar South neighborhood. His parents were from Srinagar, Kashmir, but Ankur did not reside there, despite the fact that they both grew up there. Moreover, his parents married in 1979, and he was born on August 25, 1980, in Amritsar.
His father was a sales professional who had a traveling career throughout his life. The whole of his family relocated to Delhi in 1983. Mother worked as an educator. They used to be a family from the middle classes. However, his parents send him to the top Convent Schools, according to Ankur.
His parents have sent him to Delhi for higher studies. After that, he began a Ph.D. in physics at Michigan State University (MS Astrophysics), but stopped out when he was 24. Then he proceeded to India to get an MBA at the Indian School of Business in Hyderabad.
Warikoo feels that his parent’s generation had it tough; not because they chose it, but because they were born in the 1940s or 1950s, during India’s early years of independence. The country was going through a lot of turmoil and unpredictability, and the sole thing that existed was surviving at the moment.
One of the those being interviewed commented that he feels so fortunate to be in a scenario where he can start offering some luxuries life that they couldn’t afford, and those luxuries don’t have to be about money but about allowing them see a life they had never experienced but always looked at other people as a desire and was wondering if they were going to achieve that life.
Warikoo had just one aim in life from boyhood, and that was to become a NASA space scientist. And he adored space and all that was about it. But after that, he knew it was an obsession, and he felt at the time, while he was pursuing his Ph.D in the US, that he would not like it and would not be satisfied with his entire life. Additionally, Ankur Warikoo has always desired to accomplish something significant, important, and meaningful in his life. Then he made the choice to step aside from Ph.D after returning from the United States.
He began writing in his journal all of the time that he spent in a day in a certain number of hours while he was in eighth grade. This is something that he maintains till the age of 26. If you ask him about any of those days and what he accomplished in that period, he will tell you exactly what he did at that precise moment. This practice enabled him to save a substantial amount of time.
Ankur took a job with A.T Kearney, a consulting business, after finishing his MBA. He served in the Real Estate Media & Entertainment Industry in countries like Dubai, New York, and India while at A.T Kearney. Then, in 2007, his buddy Vivek Pahwa launched the firm Accentium, of which he was a co-founder. He works for the firm in addition to his full-time job at A.T. Kearney.
After leaving A.T. Kearney in 2009, he began working full-time at Accentium Web in Gurgaon. This firm offers numerous sites in the Indian consumer space, including Secondshaadi.com, a matrimonial service for remarriage, and Gaadi.com, which was sold to the Naspers group in 2011 and was acquired by Cardekho.com in 2015. In September 2010, he quit the firm. Then, from December 2010 to March 2011, he worked as a venture partner at Rocket Internet, which was headquartered in Berlin.
Ankur founded the Groupon India Business in April 2011 when Groupon acquired the company. He handled the Groupon APAC business of India, Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines as the CEO of the India Business. From July 2014 to 2017, he served on the board of the Indian School of Business in New Delhi.
In July 2014, he became an angel investor in a number of technological and internet startups. Ultimately, in March 2015, he launched nearbuy.com in Gurgaon, Haryana. And he served as the CEO of nearbuy.com till 2019 and is currently a board member of the firm until 2022.
Ankur Warikoo now works as a digital educator, YouTuber, entrepreneur, mentor, author, angel investor, and public speaker. He teaches adults and students about entrepreneurial activity, career planning, and individual development. Furthermore, he has a pleasant demeanor. In 2021, he also released one of his novels, “Do Epic Shit,” which became one of the best-selling books of the following year. He detailed all of his motives for quitting his job in the book.
We could have also heard of the brand ‘Warikoo,’ which was founded in 2016 while Ankur was working at nearbuy.com. He rose to prominence after releasing the video “if you don’t ask, the answer is always no,” which he dubbed “Warikoo Wednesday.”
