Sukhna Choe bridge project near Bapudham Colony in Chandigarh

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh administration has received a strong response to its plan to construct a high-level bridge over the Sukhna Choe near Bapudham Colony in Sector 26. Nine firms have submitted bids for the project. The development is expected to bring competition into the bidding process and help the administration secure a competitive project cost.

Sukhna Choe Bridge Project Gets Nine Bids

The proposed bridge will replace the existing causeway in the area. The current route connects Chandigarh with Manimajra and surrounding areas.

Officials expect the competition among nine bidders to help bring down the final project cost. The estimated cost of the proposed bridge is around ₹17 crore.

The project aims to improve connectivity across the Sukhna Choe. It could also provide a more reliable crossing for commuters using the route.

Technical Evaluation of Bids Underway

The Sukhna Choe bridge project will follow the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) model.

Under this model, a single contractor will take responsibility for the complete project. This includes the design, procurement of materials and construction work.

However, the contractor will have to work according to specifications approved by the Chandigarh administration. All designs and project plans will also require approval from the UT administration.

The engineering department has now started the technical evaluation of the bids. A committee comprising senior technical officers is examining the submissions.

Firms to Undergo Technical Scrutiny

The technical evaluation will assess several aspects of the bidders’ credentials.

Officials will examine the firms’ previous work experience and financial eligibility. The committee will also review their experience in executing similar projects.

Banking credentials and other technical qualifications will form part of the evaluation. The assessment will help determine which bidders meet the requirements for the project.

The administration has received nine bids, and the technical scrutiny is currently underway. The financial stage of the tender process will follow after the technical evaluation.

Bridge Expected to Improve Connectivity

The proposed high-level bridge will replace the existing causeway near Bapudham Colony. The route is important for connectivity between Chandigarh, Manimajra and nearby areas.

The project is also expected to provide a more suitable crossing over the Sukhna Choe. Once completed, the bridge could improve movement along this corridor.

The response from nine firms indicates strong interest in the infrastructure project. The administration will now focus on completing the technical evaluation before moving ahead with the next stage of the tender.
