Sirsa Teacher Honoured for Preserving Freedom Fighters Legacy Through Digital Archive

A government school teacher from Sirsa in Haryana has been honoured by the Union Ministry of Culture. He was recognised for his work in preserving the history of Indias freedom struggle in form.

Pankaj Kumar, a teacher at Government Model School in Ramnagaria village got the award. He worked on the Digital District Repository Project.  The award was given by the Union Culture and Tourism Minister, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in New Delhi.

For this project Pankaj Kumar. Made digital records of nearly 300 freedom fighters. They were from Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand. His work is about preserving the stories of lesser-known heroes. He wants to make their stories available for generations.

Many teachers from across India took part in this project.. Only a few were chosen for recognition. Pankaj Kumar was one of them. He is from Sirsa district in Haryana.

After the award ceremony Pankaj Kumar said he is inspired to keep documenting Indias freedom movement history.  He hopes the digital archive will help young people learn about the sacrifices made during Indias struggle, for independence.
