Shimla | July 9: Heavy rainfall continues to affect normal life across Himachal Pradesh. Several areas have reported landslides, falling rocks, and road blockages after continuous rain. According to officials, 26 roads, including the Pathankot–Mandi National Highway, have been closed to ensure public safety. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh weather warning and advised people to remain alert.
The ongoing monsoon has disrupted transportation in many districts. Travellers are facing delays because several important routes remain blocked. In addition, road restoration teams are working at multiple locations to remove debris and restore traffic.
Landslides Disrupt Road Connectivity
Heavy rain has weakened hill slopes in many areas. As a result, landslides and falling rocks have blocked several roads. The Pathankot–Mandi National Highway, an important route connecting Himachal Pradesh with neighbouring states, is among the affected roads.
Authorities have deployed machinery and workers to clear mud, stones, and debris. However, restoration work is taking longer because rainfall is continuing in many parts of the state. Officials are monitoring vulnerable locations to prevent further accidents.
IMD Warns of More Rain
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more rainfall in several districts over the next few days. Therefore, people have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain. Residents living near rivers, streams, and landslide-prone areas have also been asked to stay cautious.
Tourists visiting Himachal Pradesh have been urged to check weather and traffic updates before starting their journey. Emergency response teams remain on standby to deal with any rain-related incidents.
Administration Urges Public to Stay Safe
The state administration has appealed to residents to cooperate with local authorities and follow official advisories. Drivers have been asked to avoid blocked roads and travel only when necessary. Officials also advised people not to stop vehicles near unstable hill slopes or waterlogged areas.
The continuous rainfall has created difficult conditions across the state, but restoration work is underway. Authorities hope to reopen the affected roads once weather conditions improve. Until then, people are advised to remain alert and follow safety guidelines issued by the administration.
