A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Supreme Court regarding the Bihar police firing incident, where a suspended police personnel was seen opening fire at protesters.
Rajya Sabha MP Manoj Kumar Jha approached the apex court seeking urgent intervention and accountability in the matter. The Bihar police firing incident has sparked nationwide concern after visuals of the officer firing at demonstrators went viral.
The incident reportedly occurred during protests linked to the NEET examination controversy in Bihar. Demonstrations intensified across several districts, leading to clashes between police and protesters. During the unrest, a police officer allegedly fired multiple rounds, raising serious questions about the use of force.
Following the Bihar police firing incident, the concerned officer has been suspended. However, demands for a fair and independent investigation continue to grow.
In his petition, Manoj Kumar Jha has urged the Supreme Court to direct authorities to register FIRs against those involved in excessive force. The plea also calls for the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the Bihar police firing incident and similar cases of alleged police brutality.
Additionally, the petition emphasizes the need to preserve video evidence, CCTV footage, and other crucial records related to the incident.
The Supreme Court is expected to hear the matter soon, along with other petitions concerning police action during recent protests. The Bihar police firing incident has once again highlighted concerns over law enforcement conduct during public demonstrations.
