A deep silence and sorrow have taken over Kakrala village in Haryana’s Mahendragarh district. The untimely death of Jyoti, a young PhD scholar at Panjab University, Chandigarh, has left everyone heartbroken.
Jyoti lost her life on Tuesday after being electrocuted on the university campus — a tragic incident that has shaken not just her family, but the entire village.
Born into a simple family, Jyoti carried big dreams. Her father works as a farmer, and her brother is employed in a private company. Despite limited means, she worked hard from a young age and was known in the village as a bright and determined student.
What makes the tragedy even more painful is how her parents came to know about it. They were not informed immediately. Instead, they realized something was wrong when villagers began gathering outside their home. Soon, the heartbreaking news spread, leaving the family devastated.
Sundar Lal, husband of the village sarpanch, shared his grief:
“Jyoti was brilliant since childhood. She went to Panjab University to chase her dreams and build a better future. No one ever imagined it would end like this.”
The loss has created a heavy atmosphere in Kakrala. People remember her as a hardworking girl with a gentle nature and big ambitions — someone who was meant to achieve great things.
Her body is expected to be brought back to the village on Wednesday, where her final rites will be performed. For now, a village that once celebrated her success is mourning a loss that feels impossible to accept.
