India China standoff live updates: India bans 59 Chinese apps including TikTok
Amid the heightened tensions at Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China, the Indian government on Monday took an unprecedented step by banning around 59 Chinese Apps. In the Statement of Press Release, the Ministry of Information Technology says that these apps were blocked as they are engaged in activities that are prejudicial to the sovereignty and integrity of India, defense of India, the security of the state and public order. The release also said that the ministry has received so many complaints from the various sources and also complaints about the misuse of mobile apps that are available on Android and iOS have been reported. It also says that these apps steal the user’s data in an unauthorized manner to the servers which have locations outside India.
A letter of recommendation for blocking these malicious apps has been sent by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre, Ministry of Home Affairs. Although many concerns also have been raised by the citizens regarding the security of data and risk of privacy relating to the operation of certain Chinese apps. Although this move will safeguard the interests of Indian mobile users. As said, this decision will ensure the safety and sovereignty of Indian cyberspace.
