Patiala Police’s Crusade Against Illegal Liquor Trade And Smugglers
Patiala Police have cracked down on illegal liquor smugglers and illicit liquor sellers heavily. Since the beginning of this year, the police have registered around 617 cases and arrested 544 persons with the recovery of 20,061 liters of lahan and seized 19 operating kilns. Large quantities of licit and illicit liquor were seized and a large number of vehicles were seized from such anti-social elements, said SSP Vikramjeet Duggal.
Divulging the details, SSP Mr. Vikram Jeet Duggal said that as per the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh, DGP Mr. Dinkar Gupta, Patiala Police will not tolerate any anti-social activity like drug trafficking and illicit trade in liquor.
Since January 1, 2020, to date as many as 617 cases have been registered in the district and 548 persons have been arrested while illegal possession of 58882 liters of licit liquor, 3368 liters of illicit liquor, 21078 liters of English wine, 702 liters of Rum, 20061 liters. And 12,186 liters of Beer has been recovered. Besides, 102 four-wheelers and 44 two-wheelers along with 3400 liters of spirit, 9000 liters of chemicals, and alcohol extraction equipment were also seized from such elements.
Elaborating about crackdown on bad elements in the district, Mr. Vikram Jeet Duggal said that he himself was monitoring the raid teams to crack down and curb the illicit liquor trade so that no one can endanger the lives and health of the people with these types of illegal activities.
He appealed to the people not only to refrain from buying counterfeit liquor but also to report the culprits to the police so that those who tampered with the lives of the people could be thrown behind bars. CIA staff raids teams, including local police parties, are being led by SP (I) Mr. Harmeet Singh Hundal and DSP (I) K K Panthey, he added.
