Haryana Launches Special Voter Verification Drive, Door-to-Door Checks to Begin from June 15

The Election Commission has today started a massive voter verification exercise, Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign which will be implemented across Haryana to update and ensure accurate electoral roll for upcoming elections.

The campaign is intended to give election officials a chance to look at voter records and find out if there are any discrepancies in voter rolls. The drive will be in full swing from June 15 when Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will go door-to-door in the villages, towns and cities of the state for verification.

The practice will be used to eliminate duplicate voter registration, update information on voters and allow eligible citizens who are not registered to do so, officials said. Residents are encouraged to coordinate with BLOs and have relevant documents ready that will aid in the verification process.

The Election Commission has stressed the need to keep a clean and transparent voters’ list to further enhance the democratic process. During the revision period, citizens may also verify and update their voter information on the Internet and at the election offices.

Election officials have urged to first-time voters, new residents and anyone who has identified a mistake in their voter registration files to participate in the campaign. Extra care will be taken to make sure that everyone who is eligible to vote is registered, and that any incorrect information is updated quickly.

The statewide drive is likely to reach millions of voters, and will be critical for getting accurate electoral rolls ready for future elections. Authorities are hopeful that by the time the door-to-door verification begins later this month, they will have the best possible turnout and that all eligible citizens’ voices will be counted at the polling stations.
