Haryana Launches 2,000-Acre Natural Farming Cluster in Kurukshetra

The Haryana government has announced the creation of a natural farm cluster in Kurukshetra district that will cover 2000 acres of land, as a major step towards sustainable agriculture. The project’s goals include the promotion of environmental conservation and the sustainability of agriculture, as well as the promotion of chemical-free farming.

The initiative is one of the state’s initiatives to shift towards sustainable agriculture practices, cutting down on the reliance on chemical fertilizers and pesticides. The scheme will provide technical guidance, training, and institutional support to farmers interested in adopting natural farming practices, aiding them in making a smooth transition to the new practices.

The cluster will act as a model of natural farming, where the farmers, agriculture experts, and government can get on a single platform, the officials said. This will benefit soil health, cost of inputs and the resilience of farmers to climate change.

The government is also working towards dedicated infrastructure for certifying, branding, and marketing the naturally grown and organic produce, to increase farmers’ access to markets. This will enable farmers to achieve premium prices for their products and access consumers who are looking for healthier food products.

The project has been selected for Kurukshetra because it is an area with a high potential for agricultural development and the farmers are interested in sustainable practices. The cluster will promote awareness of the advantages of natural farming and its adoption in other districts, too.

The decision has been applauded by agriculture experts who have highlighted that natural farming methods can help boost biodiversity, promote water conservation, and boost agricultural land productivity in the long run. The project also falls under the scope of the national program aimed at encouraging sustainable agricultural production and minimizing the environmental footprint caused by agricultural activities.

The launch of the 2,000-acre cluster marks a crucial step towards establishing a more sustainable and eco-friendly future for agriculture in Haryana, offering the state’s farmers new avenues for production and enhancement.
