Rebel Akali MLA Manpreet Singh Ayali to Join Waris Punjab De Today

In a significant development in Punjab politics, rebel Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MLA Manpreet Singh Ayali is set to formally join Amritpal Singh-led Waris Punjab De (WPD) today in Chandigarh. The move is being viewed as a major boost for the emerging political outfit ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.

Ayali, who represents the Dakha Assembly constituency in Ludhiana district, confirmed that he would officially become part of Waris Punjab De during a ceremony expected to be attended by key leaders of the organisation. Amritpal Singh’s father, Tarsem Singh, is likely to preside over the event, while Faridkot MP Sarabjit Singh Khalsa is also expected to be present.

The Dakha MLA has been associated with the Waris Punjab De camp for several months. During local body elections, several candidates backed by Ayali had openly campaigned using photographs of Amritpal Singh, indicating his growing proximity to the outfit.

Ayali had earlier distanced himself from the Shiromani Akali Dal leadership and later resigned from the SAD (Punar Surjit) faction. Known for frequently challenging the leadership of Sukhbir Singh Badal, Ayali has long advocated for reforms and Panthic unity within Sikh politics.

Speaking about his decision, Ayali said that Waris Punjab De is steadily strengthening its grassroots presence across Punjab. He expressed confidence that more prominent leaders and supporters would join the organisation in the coming months, potentially reshaping the state’s political landscape.

Since Waris Punjab De is not a registered political party, Ayali is unlikely to face disqualification under anti-defection provisions. However, his formal induction is expected to trigger fresh political debates and could influence future alignments among Punjab’s Panthic forces.
