GURDASPUR: In a major security initiative ahead of the upcoming Municipal Council (MC) Elections, Gurdaspur Police conducted a special district-wide nakabandi (security checkpoint operation) to maintain law and order and ensure the peaceful conduct of the electoral process.
Police teams were deployed at key entry and exit points, major road junctions, and sensitive locations across the district. During the operation, officers carried out intensive checking of vehicles, verified documents, and monitored the movement of suspicious individuals. The exercise was aimed at preventing the transportation of illegal weapons, cash, liquor, or any other material that could influence the elections.
Senior police officials supervised the operation and instructed personnel to remain vigilant throughout the election period. Authorities emphasized that maintaining a safe and secure environment for voters remains their top priority.
The special nakabandi also served as a deterrent against anti-social elements and those attempting to disrupt the democratic process. Police personnel inspected two-wheelers, cars, commercial vehicles, and public transport vehicles while conducting identity verification checks at various locations.
Officials stated that such security measures are being undertaken to instill confidence among voters and ensure that elections are conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner. The police have appealed to residents to cooperate with security personnel and immediately report any suspicious activity.
With election preparations entering a crucial phase, Gurdaspur Police have assured citizens that strict security arrangements will remain in place until the completion of the polling process, helping safeguard peace and public safety across the district.
