The Himachal Pradesh government has approved compensation amounting to ₹16.8 crore for families affected by the proposed expansion of Gaggal Airport in Kangra district. The decision is aimed at providing financial relief to residents whose land and properties are likely to be acquired for the airport’s development project.
The approval comes as part of ongoing efforts to expand the airport’s infrastructure and enhance air connectivity in the region. Officials said the sanctioned amount will be distributed among eligible families identified during the land acquisition process. The expansion project is considered important for improving transportation facilities and supporting tourism, trade, and economic activity in the state.
According to government sources, the compensation package has been prepared after assessing the impact of the project on local households. Authorities have been working to ensure that affected residents receive adequate financial support in accordance with existing land acquisition norms. The move is expected to address concerns raised by families facing displacement or loss of property due to the proposed development.
Gaggal Airport, located near Dharamshala, serves as a key gateway to the Kangra Valley and surrounding tourist destinations. Plans to expand the facility have been under discussion for several years, with the objective of accommodating larger aircraft and increasing passenger capacity. Improved infrastructure is expected to boost tourism and strengthen regional connectivity.
The sanction of ₹16.8 crore marks a significant step in advancing the project while addressing the interests of affected families. With compensation measures now approved, the government is expected to move forward with the next stages of land acquisition and project implementation in the coming months.
