Couple Wins ₹25,000 Compensation for Mental Stress Over Undelivered Wedding Photos
Consumer court awards ₹25,000 compensation for mental stress after photographer fails to deliver 200 wedding images

A consumer court has awarded ₹25,000 in compensation to a couple after they suffered mental distress and inconvenience when a photographer failed to deliver nearly 200 wedding photographs, despite full payment and repeated follow-ups. The case highlights growing concerns over accountability in professional wedding services.

According to the complaint, the couple hired a local wedding photographer ahead of their ceremony, expecting timely delivery of edited images capturing key moments of their special day. However, months passed without the promised photographs being handed over. Despite multiple reminders and assurances from the photographer, only a handful of images were shared, while nearly 200 pictures remained undelivered.

Frustrated by the delay and alleged negligence, the couple approached a consumer forum seeking compensation for financial loss and emotional suffering. They argued that the missing photographs were not just digital files but irreplaceable memories of an important life event.

After reviewing the evidence, the forum observed that the service provider had clearly failed to fulfill contractual obligations and had caused undue mental harassment to the complainants. While the court did not impose a large penalty, it acknowledged the emotional value attached to wedding documentation and directed the photographer to pay ₹25,000 as compensation.

The ruling reinforces the responsibility of service providers to honor commitments, especially in emotionally significant events like weddings. It also serves as a reminder for customers to ensure written agreements and clear terms while hiring professional services.
