A major security breach has come to light in Punjab after authorities discovered a spy camera allegedly installed in a military-sensitive zone in Bathinda. The case has raised serious concerns among security agencies, with investigators examining claims that footage captured by the device was transmitted to recipients in Pakistan and Canada.
According to preliminary findings, the surveillance device was detected during a security review in an area located near strategic military installations. Officials said the camera appeared to have been positioned to monitor movement and activities within the vicinity. Following the discovery, intelligence agencies and Punjab Police launched a joint investigation to determine how long the device had been operating and whether any sensitive information had been compromised.
As part of the probe, two residents of Amritsar were arrested on suspicion of involvement in the surveillance operation. Investigators reportedly traced the suspects through digital evidence, communication records, and technical analysis of the device. Authorities are examining recovered electronic equipment, mobile phones, and data storage devices for possible links to foreign contacts. Cases under relevant provisions related to national security, espionage, and information technology violations are being considered.
The Bathinda military zone is regarded as a strategically important area because of its proximity to defense installations and operational infrastructure. Security experts warn that unauthorized surveillance devices can be used to gather sensitive information regarding troop movements, logistics, and military preparedness, potentially posing risks to national security.
Investigators are also analyzing the technical capabilities of the camera, including its communication systems, data transmission methods, and any connections to external networks. Intelligence officials have not ruled out the possibility of a wider espionage network and are coordinating with central agencies to identify any foreign links.
The incident has renewed concerns about espionage and digital surveillance targeting military facilities. Defense analysts have called for enhanced counterintelligence measures, improved electronic monitoring, and stricter security audits around strategic locations. As the investigation continues, authorities remain focused on determining the full scope of the operation and whether additional individuals were involved.
