Haryana anti-sex determination campaign.

The Haryana government has intensified its campaign against illegal sex determination and female foeticide, reaching out to neighboring Uttar Pradesh for greater coordination in tracking offenders and preventing violations of the law. The move comes as authorities seek to further improve the state’s sex ratio and strengthen enforcement of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act.

Health Minister Arti Singh Rao recently held discussions with officials from Uttar Pradesh and emphasized the need for interstate cooperation to curb illegal prenatal sex determination activities. According to officials, several cases have revealed that pregnant women from Haryana are sometimes taken to neighboring states for unlawful gender determination tests in an attempt to evade local surveillance and enforcement measures.

To address the issue, Haryana has proposed enhanced intelligence sharing, joint inspections, and coordinated action against diagnostic centers, brokers, and individuals involved in illegal sex determination networks. The government also plans to strengthen monitoring mechanisms and increase awareness campaigns in districts bordering Uttar Pradesh.

Haryana has made significant progress in improving its sex ratio over the past decade through initiatives such as the “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” campaign and strict action against violators of the PCPNDT Act. However, officials maintain that continued vigilance is necessary to eliminate gender-based discrimination and protect the rights of the girl child.

The state government believes that closer collaboration between Haryana and Uttar Pradesh will help dismantle cross-border networks involved in illegal sex determination and female foeticide. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to ensuring strict legal action against offenders while promoting social awareness about gender equality and the value of daughters.

The initiative is being seen as an important step towards safeguarding the gains made in improving Haryana’s sex ratio and reinforcing the state’s commitment to protecting girl children.
