A tragic road accident in Himachal Pradesh’s Lahaul-Spiti district claimed the lives of a woman from Gurugram and her 11-month-old son after the vehicle they were travelling in plunged into a deep gorge. The incident occurred on a mountainous stretch of road near the popular tourist region, known for its challenging terrain and sharp bends.
According to police officials, the family was on a trip to Lahaul-Spiti when the driver reportedly lost control of the car. The vehicle veered off the road and fell into a gorge several hundred feet deep. Local residents and rescue teams rushed to the spot after receiving information about the accident.
The woman and her infant son suffered severe injuries and were declared dead. Other occupants of the vehicle were also injured and were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Rescue operations were carried out under difficult conditions due to the rugged terrain and steep slopes in the area.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. Preliminary reports suggest that difficult road conditions, sharp curves, or possible driver error may have contributed to the tragedy. Officials have urged tourists visiting high-altitude regions to exercise caution, especially during long-distance travel on mountain roads.
The deaths of the young mother and her infant have left family members and friends in deep shock. The incident has once again highlighted the risks associated with travel on Himalayan roads, particularly during the peak tourist season when traffic increases significantly.
Police have completed the necessary legal formalities and handed over the bodies to the family. The injured passengers continue to receive medical care.==
