Chandigarh: The Haryana Cabinet has approved a major incentive to promote cleaner transportation across the National Capital Region (NCR). Vehicle owners can now receive a 100% motor vehicle tax rebate when they replace old commercial vehicles with new, environmentally friendly models.
Push for Cleaner Vehicles
The scheme targets owners of older trucks and buses operating in Haryana’s NCR districts. The government wants to reduce pollution and encourage the use of cleaner technologies.
Owners who replace eligible old vehicles with new BS-VI, electric, or CNG-powered trucks and buses will receive a full motor vehicle tax concession. The benefit will remain available for ten years.
Additional Benefits for Vehicle Owners
The government has also announced relief for those purchasing used commercial vehicles. Eligible buyers of used BS-VI, electric, or CNG trucks and buses will receive a 50% motor vehicle tax concession.
Authorities will also waive registration fees for new vehicles purchased under the scheme. This measure will reduce the overall cost of upgrading commercial fleets.
Relief on Pending Dues
The policy provides another important benefit. The government will waive certain outstanding liabilities that have remained unpaid for more than one year on eligible vehicles participating in the replacement programme.
Officials believe this step will encourage more owners to retire older vehicles and switch to cleaner alternatives.
Thousands Expected to Benefit
Government estimates suggest the scheme could benefit more than 93,000 trucks and over 16,000 buses in Haryana’s NCR region.
The initiative forms part of a wider effort to improve air quality across Delhi-NCR. Authorities expect the policy to reduce emissions, modernise commercial fleets, and promote sustainable transport.
Supporting a Greener Future
The scheme aligns with broader regional efforts to phase out ageing commercial vehicles. It also supports the adoption of cleaner fuel technologies across the NCR.
Officials say the policy will help create a cleaner environment while providing financial relief to vehicle owners. They expect the initiative to accelerate the transition towards modern and eco-friendly transportation.
