One Year After Haryana Agricultural University Agitation, Inquiry Report Still Awaits Action

HISAR: Nearly a year after the student agitation at Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (CCSHAU) in Hisar, the recommendations of an official inquiry report remain unimplemented. Student leaders, retired faculty members and university stakeholders have expressed concern over the delay and warned that fresh protests could begin if the Haryana government fails to act soon.

Inquiry Report Highlights Alleged Irregularities

The Haryana government appointed a high-level inquiry after the campus unrest and allegations of administrative misconduct. Former Divisional Commissioner Ashok Garg submitted the report after examining several complaints.

According to those who have reviewed the findings, the report pointed to alleged administrative irregularities, arbitrary decisions and procedural lapses within the university. It also recommended reforms to improve transparency, accountability and grievance redressal across the institution.

Stakeholders Demand Immediate Implementation

Retired professors and student representatives addressed the media outside the university campus. They urged the Haryana government to implement the inquiry report without further delay.

The group demanded action against officials whom the report allegedly found responsible for administrative lapses. They also sought the withdrawal of cases registered against students during last year’s agitation. According to the stakeholders, delaying action has weakened confidence in the inquiry process.

Protest Began After Campus Violence

The agitation began after students opposed changes to the stipend policy and other university decisions. Tensions escalated when security personnel and university officials allegedly used force against protesting students. Several students suffered injuries during the incident, triggering widespread criticism from farmer organisations, political leaders and civil society groups.

The protest continued for several weeks before the Haryana government intervened. A government-appointed committee later held multiple rounds of talks with student representatives and accepted several demands. However, the issue of fixing responsibility for the violence remained unresolved.

Students Warn of Fresh Agitation

Student leaders say they have waited long enough for action. They argue that the inquiry report has little value unless the government implements its recommendations.

They warned that another round of protests could begin if the authorities continue to delay decisions. Stakeholders believe the government should complete disciplinary proceedings and introduce the suggested reforms to restore confidence among students and faculty members.

Government Yet to Announce Timeline

The Haryana government has not announced a timeline for implementing the inquiry report. University stakeholders continue to demand transparency and accountability in the matter.

The controversy remains one of the most significant higher education issues in Haryana over the past year. Many students now hope the government will act quickly and prevent another campus confrontation.
