India witnessed several significant political, economic, and administrative developments
The day’s biggest business announcement came after Amazon CEO Andy Jassy met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. Amazon pledged to invest $48 billion (around ₹4 lakh crore) in India over the next four years. The investment will strengthen the company’s logistics network, cloud infrastructure, artificial intelligence capabilities, and digital commerce ecosystem. It is also expected to create thousands of new employment opportunities across the country.
On the trade front, Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said negotiations for the proposed India–US trade agreement are in the final stage. According to the government, the agreement could give Indian exporters a competitive tariff advantage in sectors such as manufacturing, textiles, and technology. The deal is expected to boost bilateral trade and attract more investment.
The Central Government also clarified that a passport is not proof of Indian citizenship. It explained that passports are issued under the Passports Act to facilitate international travel. The clarification came amid public discussions over citizenship documents. At the same time, the Election Commission stated that a valid passport remains an accepted identity document during voter roll verification.
In Uttar Pradesh, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced a new list of state office-bearers. The organisational reshuffle is part of the party’s preparations for the 2027 Assembly elections. Party leaders said the move aims to strengthen the BJP’s grassroots network before the polls.
Meanwhile, the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) banned the use of newspapers for serving or packaging food. The department cited health concerns, saying that printing ink and newspaper chemicals can contaminate food.
Weather also remained in focus across the country. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted widespread monsoon activity and heavy rainfall in several states. However, parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh may continue to experience heatwave conditions. Authorities have advised residents to stay alert and follow official weather advisories.
