Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has urged village sarpanches to use government funds transparently and speed up rural development. Speaking at a gathering in Patiala, he said villages should become the backbone of a “Rangla Punjab.”
The Chief Minister asked elected representatives to rise above political differences and work together for the welfare of people. He stressed that every development project should be completed with accountability and transparency.
Mann also directed village leaders to focus on better roads, schools, sanitation, healthcare, and other basic facilities. According to him, strong villages are essential for Punjab’s overall growth.
The state government said sufficient funds have been allocated for rural development. It added that proper implementation of projects at the village level remains its top priority.
Opposition Questions Government Over Panchayat Land
Political activity intensified after Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa accused the AAP government of planning to auction panchayat land to tackle the state’s financial challenges.
Bajwa claimed that village common land belongs to local communities and should not be used to manage government finances. He said such a move could affect the interests of rural residents.
The allegations triggered fresh political debate across Punjab. However, the state government rejected the criticism and said its policies are aimed at strengthening villages and improving rural infrastructure.
Punjab Government to Raise ₹1,500 Crore Loan
The Punjab government has decided to raise a fresh loan of ₹1,500 crore through state government securities.
Opposition parties criticised the decision and expressed concern over the state’s growing debt. They argued that repeated borrowing could increase the financial burden on Punjab.
Government officials, however, said the loan is part of routine financial management. They added that the funds will support development projects, public services, and welfare schemes across the state.
Ropar Thermal Plant Units Resume Operations
The Guru Gobind Singh Super Thermal Power Plant in Ropar has resumed operations after a prolonged shutdown.
Officials said the restart will improve electricity supply during the peak summer season. It will also reduce Punjab’s dependence on costly power purchases from the open market.
Rain Alert May Affect Road Transport in Punjab
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted thunderstorms and rainfall in several parts of Punjab on June 27.
Authorities have advised commuters to drive carefully, especially on highways and village roads. Heavy rain may reduce visibility and cause waterlogging in low-lying areas.
Transport officials are monitoring the situation and have asked travellers to follow weather updates before starting their journey.
