India’s National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval visited Russia on Friday for high-level discussions aimed at deepening strategic, defence, and maritime cooperation between the two countries.
During his visit, Doval met senior Russian officials, including Russian Presidential Aide Nikolai Patrushev, to review ongoing bilateral cooperation and discuss regional and global security challenges. The talks focused on strengthening long-standing India-Russia ties amid an evolving geopolitical landscape marked by growing security concerns and shifting international alliances.
According to official sources, the discussions covered a wide range of issues, including maritime security, defence collaboration, counter-terrorism efforts, and emerging strategic challenges. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining close coordination on matters of mutual interest and enhancing cooperation in key sectors.
India and Russia share a longstanding strategic partnership that spans defence, energy, space, and technology. Russia remains one of India’s most important defence partners, supplying a significant portion of the country’s military equipment and technology. The two nations have also expanded cooperation in areas such as nuclear energy, trade, and connectivity initiatives.
The visit comes at a time when global geopolitical dynamics are undergoing significant changes due to ongoing conflicts, regional tensions, and increasing competition among major powers. Analysts believe Doval’s visit reflects India’s efforts to maintain strong relations with traditional partners while pursuing its broader strategic and security interests.
Officials from both countries emphasized the importance of continued dialogue and cooperation to address common security concerns and promote stability in the region. The meeting also highlighted the growing importance of maritime security and defence coordination in ensuring peace and safeguarding strategic interests.
Doval’s visit is expected to further strengthen India-Russia relations and reinforce cooperation on key security and strategic issues in the years ahead.
