Amritsar, July 24, 2026 – In a major development in the 2023 Ajnala police station clash case, fugitive accused Vikramjit Singh has finally been arrested by Uttar Pradesh Police while allegedly attempting to enter India illegally via Nepal.
Vikramjit Singh, who is associated with the ‘Waris Punjab De’ organization, had been evading arrest for over two years. Alongside him, an American citizen identified as Manveer Singh has also been detained. Police have further arrested three individuals who allegedly helped them cross the border illegally.
According to officials, the arrests came to light after Uttar Pradesh Police shared details with Amritsar Rural Police. Vikramjit had been constantly on the move, hiding in cities like Mumbai, Rajasthan, Delhi, and Udhampur before fleeing to Kathmandu, Nepal, nearly a year ago.
Superintendent of Police Vishwajit Srivastava confirmed that both individuals were detained during routine checking as they were trying to enter India without valid travel documents. The American national was reportedly caught without a visa, raising further concerns over illegal cross-border movement.
The case traces back to February 2023, when a major protest took place outside Ajnala police station. Vikramjit Singh was present during the protest led by ‘Waris Punjab De’ chief Amritpal Singh, now a Member of Parliament from Khadoor Sahib. The protest aimed to secure the release of Lovepreet Singh alias Toofan, who was booked in an attempted murder case.
Police sources revealed that Vikramjit Singh already had arrest warrants issued against him. A Punjab Police team has now reached Uttar Pradesh and is completing legal formalities to take him into custody.
Investigations have also uncovered that Vikramjit was traveling using a fake Aadhaar card. Uttar Pradesh Police have registered a case under the Foreigners Act and other relevant sections.
The arrest marks a significant breakthrough in the Ajnala clash case, which had drawn widespread attention across Punjab and beyond.
