New sports policy aims to produce more medal winners – sports minister
Punjab Sports and Youth Services Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer on Sunday said that Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was making every effort to promote the sports and committed to make the state a hub of sports in the country.
Participating in Jarkhar Sports Festival’s last day as chief guest, The Cabinet Minister said that the department was in process of finalizing new sports policy aimed to produce more medal winners in the Olympic and other international level games by providing them state of art infrastructure and training besides providing cash awards and assured jobs to the players.
Meet Hayer said that the state government was committed to development of sports and welfare of sportspersons in the Punjab. There was no dearth of talent in Punjab but the need of hour was that the players need better infrastructure and facilities which will be ensured by the state government, he added. He also mentioned that his department had recently started Olympian Balbir Singh Senior Scholarship Scheme for the players and organized Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan.
Later, Meet Hayer also distributed prizes to the winning hockey teams and Kabaddi players. He also honored prominent personalities of Sports sector in the event.
Chief organizer of Sports Festival Jagrup Singh Jarkhar thanked the minister for promising AstroTurf in the stadium. Sahnewal MLA Hardeep Singh Mundian and others were also present on this occasion.
