Vigilance nabs Punjab forest corporation official taking bribe Rs 30,000
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), on Tuesday arrested one Gurdarshan Singh, Office Assistant (Data Entry Operator), posted in the office of Punjab Forest Corporation, SAS Nagar for taking bribe of Rs. 30,000.
Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the state VB said the above mentioned accused has been arrested on the complaint of Prince Verma, resident of Sector-39, Chandigarh Road, Ludhiana city.
He informed that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that his firm named ‘Punjab Timber’ was assigned the work of felling of trees on both sides of the road leading from Mehta Chowk in Amritsar to Dera Baba Nanak Corridor, in Gurdaspur by Ganesh Builders, Sri Ganga Nagar, Rajasthan.
The complainant further informed that to grant the requisite approval in the said matter from the State Forest Corporation, the accused office assistant Gurdarshan Singh was demanding 1.5% commission (Total amount Rs. 6,00,000) from him out of the job work allotted to his firm.
He further added that the above mentioned accused has already taken Rs. 10,000 as a bribe from him in this regard.
The spokesperson added that after verifying the allegations in the complaint a VB team from economic offences wing Punjab laid a trap and the accused official was caught red-handed while accepting Rs. 30,000 as a bribe from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. In this regard a case FIR No. 26 dated 19-12-2022 under section 7 of prevention of corruption act has been registered against him at VB Police Station at SAS Nagar. Further investigation in the case was under progress.
