Hospital employee claims he was attacked while on duty; police begin investigation.

An alleged assault on a staff member working at the Blood Bank of the Civil Hospital in Phagwara has raised concerns about the safety of healthcare workers within government medical institutions. The incident reportedly occurred inside the hospital premises while the employee was on duty.

According to the victim, Dharminder, a resident of Satnampura, he was performing his duties at the Civil Hospital Blood Bank when he was allegedly attacked by individuals present on the premises. Dharminder claimed that the altercation escalated suddenly, resulting in physical assault. The exact circumstances leading to the incident are currently under investigation.

Hospital staff members who learned of the incident reportedly came to the victim’s assistance, while hospital authorities were informed immediately. Dharminder allegedly sustained injuries during the assault and received medical attention at the hospital. Officials have not yet disclosed the full extent of his injuries.

Civil Hospital authorities said they are cooperating with law enforcement agencies and reviewing available evidence, including CCTV footage installed within the hospital complex. Police officials have confirmed receiving information about the incident and initiating an inquiry. Investigators are working to identify the individuals involved and determine the motive behind the alleged attack.

Healthcare workers and staff associations expressed concern over the incident, calling for stronger security arrangements in hospitals and strict action against those responsible. Some employees reportedly demanded enhanced protection measures to ensure the safety of medical and support staff while performing their duties.

Police officials indicated that action will be taken based on evidence gathered during the investigation. An FIR may be registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and other applicable laws if the allegations are substantiated.

Public health experts emphasize that hospitals should remain safe environments for both patients and staff.
