India Elects First Tribal President Draupadi Murmu
India got its first tribal President as Droupadi Murmu, the NDA’s choice, scooped up over 50 per cent of the total vote value after just three rounds of counting.
Opposition Yashwant Sinha has conceded defeat. The oath ceremony is on July 25.
Droupadi Murmu has accumulated 53.13 per cent of the total vote value after three rounds of counting. There is still one more round to go, in which votes of nine states and two Union Territories will be counted.
After the counting of votes of all MPs and MLAs of 20 states, Murmu has crossed the halfway mark. Her total votes now stand at 5,77,777, while Yashwant Sinha has garnered only 2,61,062 votes. As many as 17 MPs and 104 MLAs from the Opposition camp have cross-voted for Murmu
