Punjab Congress president and Member of Parliament Raja Warring has come out in support of Ola drivers protesting in Chandigarh, urging the Central Government and concerned authorities to seriously consider their demands and find a practical solution through dialogue. His remarks come amid growing uncertainty over the future of app-based cab services in the city following regulatory action against ride-hailing aggregators.
Addressing the issue, Warring said that thousands of drivers depend on app-based taxi platforms such as Ola for their livelihoods and that any policy decision affecting their employment should be taken with due consideration. He called on authorities to engage with driver representatives and ensure that regulations are implemented in a manner that balances public interest with the welfare of workers.
The controversy follows administrative action against app-based cab operations in Chandigarh. Authorities have warned that bookings made in violation of licensing norms and regulatory requirements could attract penalties of up to ₹10,000. The warning has raised concerns among both drivers and commuters, many of whom rely on app-based transportation services for daily travel.
