“No Student Will Suffer”: Dharmendra Pradhan Admits Discrepancies In CBSE OSM Process

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has admitted that there were discrepancies in the Central Board of Secondary Education’s (CBSE) On-Screen Marking (OSM) process. He assured students that the government will take corrective steps and no student will face unfair treatment because of technical issues.

Pradhan said expert teams from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur and IIT Madras are reviewing the OSM system. The experts are checking the software coding and technical setup used in the digital evaluation process. They will identify flaws and suggest improvements to make the system more reliable.

The issue came to light after many students and parents raised concerns about differences in marks and evaluation patterns in recent CBSE exams. Several students claimed that the marking process lacked consistency. These complaints also raised questions about the transparency and accuracy of digital evaluation.

The minister said the government and CBSE want to maintain trust in the examination system. He added that officials will correct any errors quickly to protect students’ academic interests. “No student will suffer because of these discrepancies,” Pradhan said. He also stated that expert guidance will help strengthen the evaluation process.

CBSE introduced the OSM system to make answer sheet evaluation faster and more transparent. Under this system, teachers check answer sheets digitally instead of using physical copies. However, recent complaints have shown the need for better monitoring and stronger technical safeguards.

CBSE will prepare a detailed review report after discussions with the IIT teams. The board may also introduce new reforms to improve the digital evaluation system and avoid such problems in the future.
