Gurugram, Haryana: A recent sealing drive carried out by authorities in the DLF area of Gurugram has left nearly 40 families homeless, sparking concerns over tenant rights and rehabilitation measures. The action was taken against several residential units allegedly operating in violation of approved building norms and municipal regulations.
According to residents, officials arrived with notices and proceeded to seal multiple properties, forcing tenants to vacate their homes with little time to make alternative arrangements. Many affected families claimed they were unaware of any legal disputes or violations linked to the buildings and had been paying rent regularly. The sudden eviction has disrupted the lives of working professionals, students, senior citizens, and children who were residing in the affected properties.
Tenants have appealed to the Haryana government and local administration for immediate intervention, arguing that innocent renters should not be punished for alleged violations committed by property owners. Several residents have demanded temporary relief measures, including additional time to relocate, alternative accommodation assistance, and clear guidelines to protect tenants during enforcement actions.
Meanwhile, civic authorities have defended the sealing drive, stating that the operation was part of an ongoing effort to enforce urban planning regulations and address unauthorized construction in the city. Officials maintain that action was taken after due process and in accordance with legal provisions.
The incident has reignited debate over balancing urban development regulations with the welfare of residents who may be caught in the middle of property disputes. Housing rights activists have also called for stronger safeguards to ensure that tenants receive adequate notice and support before such enforcement actions are carried out.
