Fake Kala Jathedi extortion case

Delhi Police have arrested two Haryana-based businessmen for allegedly posing as members of the notorious Kala Jathedi gang to extort money from a Delhi businessman by using fear and intimidation. The accused have been identified as Rajan Kalra (26), a resident of Yamunanagar, and Sahil Garg (38), a medical equipment trader from Jagadhari in Haryana.

The case surfaced after Rohit Jain, who runs a plastic glue tape manufacturing business in Delhi’s Bawana area, lodged a complaint at Adarsh Nagar police station. Jain alleged that he had been receiving threatening WhatsApp calls from international numbers. The callers claimed to be associates of gangster Kala Jathedi and demanded money, warning that he would be killed if he failed to comply.

During the investigation, police discovered that Jain had an ongoing financial dispute with Sahil Garg. Garg had earlier accused Jain of cheating and non-payment of approximately ₹2.95 crore. Investigators alleged that the accused exploited the dispute by creating a fake extortion plan. The callers reportedly claimed that they had already accepted ₹50 lakh as an advance to recover the disputed amount and threatened severe consequences if Jain did not pay.

Based on audio recordings provided by the complainant, Delhi Police registered an FIR on June 7 under provisions related to extortion and criminal intimidation. Using technical surveillance and call-record analysis, police conducted raids in Karnal, Jagadhari, Yamunanagar, and Chandigarh. Rajan Kalra was arrested first, and his interrogation led to Sahil Garg’s arrest. Authorities recovered three mobile phones allegedly used in the crime. During questioning, both accused reportedly admitted they had no actual links with the Kala Jathedi gang and had merely used the gangster’s name to pressure the complainant into paying money. The investigation is continuing.
