Haryana human rights panel takes cognisance of custodial torture, extortion allegations against police
The Haryana Human Rights Commission has taken action on its own because of allegations about the Government Railway Police in Ambala Cantonment. A businessman said he was detained illegally and treated badly by the police. He was not even accused of doing anything
The businessman went to the police for questioning about a theft of gold on a train.. He said the police did not follow the law. They kept him locked up hit him took his clothes off and said they would make up charges against him. The police also wanted him to pay them ₹10 lakh to let him go. They did not let his family see him while he was detained.
The Human Rights Commission is taking these allegations seriously. They told the police officer in Haryana to make sure a high-ranking officer investigates this case. The Commission said if these things really happened it would be a deal. The police would have broken the law. Violated the businessmans human rights.
The Human Rights Commission also said the police should keep the video from the cameras at the police station on the day of the incident. This will be part of the investigation. The people in charge will look at what happened before they decide what to do next. The Haryana Human Rights Commission and the Human Rights Commission will make sure the investigation is done properly. The Haryana Human Rights Commission is watching the Government Railway Police, in Ambala Cantonment closely.
