Transparent reporting behind higher numbers
The Haryana Police has responded to the latest National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data showing high crime figures in the state. It said the numbers reflect transparent case registration and better reporting systems, not a direct rise in crime.
FIR registration policy increases recorded cases
Haryana Director General of Police Ajay Singhal spoke to the media on the issue. He said the state follows a strict policy of prompt FIR registration. He also said citizens are encouraged to report crimes without hesitation. This approach often increases recorded crime figures compared to states where cases may go unreported.
Crimes against children show higher rates
The NCRB “Crime in India” report has drawn attention to Haryana’s performance in several categories. One key area is crimes against children. The state registered 7,547 such cases, placing it among the higher reporting states in this category.
Officials said many of these cases involve missing children. They also said most of these children are later traced and reunited with their families.
Cybercrime and enforcement drive higher reporting
Haryana Police said stronger enforcement has also increased case registration. This includes action in cybercrime, financial fraud, and electricity theft cases. Officials said these efforts are part of a wider push to improve detection and accountability.
₹750 crore modernisation plan underway
The police department is also upgrading its infrastructure. It is implementing projects worth around ₹750 crore. These projects aim to improve surveillance systems, cyber policing units, forensic support, and emergency response services.
Crackdown on organised crime continues
Officials said Haryana Police is actively targeting organized crime. This includes gang networks, drug trafficking groups, and cyber fraud syndicates. Special operations and inter-state coordination are being used for enforcement.
Political reactions to NCRB data
The NCRB figures have sparked political debate in the state. Opposition leaders have raised concerns about public safety and policing effectiveness.
However, police officials said higher crime numbers should not be seen in isolation. They said better transparency, stronger policing, and improved reporting systems also contribute to higher recorded figures.
