Chandigarh: Heavy monsoon showers brought relief from the heat but disrupted normal life across several parts of Haryana on Wednesday. Rainfall was recorded in seven districts, leading to waterlogging, traffic congestion, and a sharp drop in temperature. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for six cities, warning of more heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.
One of the worst-hit areas was Faridabad, where the city’s main bus stand was submerged under knee-deep water, making it difficult for passengers and buses to move. Commuters struggled to reach their destinations as several roads turned into temporary pools after hours of continuous rain.
Gurugram Records Highest Rainfall
Among all the affected districts, Gurugram received the highest rainfall, resulting in severe waterlogging on major roads and long traffic jams during peak office hours. Vehicles moved at a snail’s pace as rainwater accumulated at several key intersections. Civic teams were deployed to clear blocked drains and restore traffic movement.
Officials have advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel and stay updated with weather advisories until conditions improve.
Temperature Drops by Up to 5 Degrees
The widespread rainfall also brought significant relief from humid weather. Maximum temperatures across several districts dropped by up to five degrees Celsius, making the weather cooler and more pleasant than in previous days.
Weather experts said the active monsoon system is expected to continue influencing Haryana over the next few days, increasing the possibility of more rainfall in many regions.
Orange Alert for Six Cities
The IMD has placed six cities under an Orange Alert, urging people to remain cautious due to the possibility of heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds. District administrations have advised residents to avoid waterlogged areas, stay away from weak structures and electric poles, and follow official weather updates.
Emergency response teams have been kept on standby to deal with any rain-related incidents.
Authorities have also appealed to motorists to drive carefully, maintain safe distances, and avoid flooded roads wherever possible. Citizens have been encouraged to report incidents of waterlogging, fallen trees, or power disruptions to local administration for immediate assistance.
With more rain forecast in the coming days, officials expect weather conditions to remain unstable across much of Haryana.
