Haryana, Rajasthan Sign Historic Upper Yamuna Water-Sharing Pact after 32 Years
The governments of Haryana and Rajasthan have made a step to solve their water-sharing problem. They have agreed to share the Upper Yamuna water. The agreement was signed with the help of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. This deal will help areas in both states that do not have enough drinking water.
The agreement is based on the 1994 Upper Yamuna water-sharing arrangement. This arrangement was made 32 years ago. Was not fully implemented. Now Rajasthan will get its share of Yamuna water through a pipeline.
About 580 million cubic metres of water will be given to Rajasthan every year during the monsoon months. This water will come from the Hathnikund Barrage. Go through the Western Yamuna Canal. Then it will reach Rajasthan through three underground pipelines.
The project will cost around ₹34,000 crore. It will help many people get drinking water for a time. In Rajasthan, Sikar, Churu and Jhunjhunu districts will benefit a lot. In Haryana, Bhiwani
