Haryana food safety laboratories

Chandigarh, June 10: In a significant move to enhance food safety standards across the state, the Haryana government has approved the establishment of eight new food-testing laboratories and initiated the recruitment of additional food safety officers. The decision is aimed at strengthening the state’s capacity to monitor food quality and protect public health.

According to official sources, two of the new laboratories will be set up in Hisar and Narnaul during the 2026–27 financial year. The government has earmarked ₹24 crore for the development of these facilities, which are expected to improve testing capabilities and ensure quicker analysis of food samples from various districts.

The expansion comes amid increased efforts by the state administration to curb food adulteration and enforce food safety regulations. Authorities reported that more than 2,200 food samples were tested during recent inspection drives conducted across Haryana. These inspections led to strict action against violators, with penalties exceeding ₹2 crore imposed on businesses found guilty of compromising food safety standards.

Officials stated that the new laboratories will help reduce testing delays, improve surveillance of food products, and strengthen enforcement mechanisms. The recruitment of additional food safety officers is also expected to enhance field inspections and compliance monitoring.

The initiative reflects the Haryana government’s commitment to ensuring safe and quality food for consumers while promoting greater accountability among food manufacturers, distributors, and vendors. Experts believe that the expanded infrastructure will play a crucial role in safeguarding public health and boosting consumer confidence in the state’s food supply system.
