Shimla | July 8: The illegal trade of ‘Chitta’, a dangerous synthetic drug, continues to pose a serious challenge in Himachal Pradesh. Over the past few years, the problem has spread beyond major towns and reached several districts, drawing attention from the government, police, and local communities. Officials say drug traffickers are now using smarter methods to avoid detection, making the fight against the menace even more difficult.
Instead of handing over drugs directly, many peddlers now leave small packets at hidden locations such as roadside drains, abandoned corners, or isolated public places. After receiving online payment, they share the exact location with buyers through mobile phones. This method reduces face-to-face contact and makes it harder for police to trace both suppliers and customers.
Youth Remain the Biggest Target
According to officials, young people continue to be the main targets of the illegal drug network. Easy availability and secret delivery methods have made the substance more accessible in both urban and rural areas. As addiction grows, families are facing emotional and financial hardships, while communities are becoming increasingly concerned about the future of their youth.
Experts believe that drug addiction often leads to health problems, crime, and social instability. Therefore, awareness among students and parents has become more important than ever.
Police and Government Strengthen Action
The Himachal Pradesh government has stepped up its campaign against drug trafficking. Police teams are conducting regular raids, increasing surveillance, and taking action against interstate networks involved in supplying narcotics. Authorities have also intensified checks in vulnerable areas to stop the movement of illegal drugs.
Along with strict enforcement, the government is expanding awareness drives and rehabilitation programmes. Officials believe that helping addicts recover is just as important as arresting those involved in the drug trade.
Community Support Is Essential
Authorities have appealed to people to report suspicious activities and support anti-drug campaigns. They say that public participation, strict policing, and continuous awareness are essential to stop the spread of ‘Chitta’ in Himachal Pradesh.
As the state continues its fight against drug abuse, officials hope that stronger enforcement and greater community involvement will help protect future generations from the growing menace.
