HC Seeks Reply on Kasauli Traffic
Court expresses concern over recurring traffic jams affecting residents, tourists, and emergency services.

The Himachal Pradesh High Court has taken a serious view of recurring traffic congestion on the Garkhal–Kasauli road stretch and sought a detailed response from the state government regarding measures being taken to address the problem. The matter came up before the court amid growing concerns over persistent traffic jams that have increasingly affected residents, tourists, commuters, emergency services, and local businesses in the popular hill destination.

During the proceedings, the court reportedly observed that frequent traffic bottlenecks on the Garkhal–Kasauli route have become a major public concern, particularly during weekends, holidays, and peak tourist seasons. The bench sought information from the government regarding existing traffic management mechanisms, infrastructure constraints, and future plans to ease congestion in the region.

The Garkhal–Kasauli road is one of the primary access routes to Kasauli and often witnesses long queues of vehicles due to limited road capacity, roadside parking, increasing tourist inflow, and the growing number of private vehicles visiting the hill station. Concerns regarding traffic delays have been raised by residents, business owners, and visitors over the years, prompting calls for long-term solutions.

Government representatives, district administration officials, police authorities, and the Public Works Department (PWD) are expected to provide details of measures already implemented, including traffic regulation plans, parking facilities, road improvement projects, and proposals aimed at improving mobility. Authorities have previously explored options such as designated parking areas, traffic diversions, shuttle transport services, and infrastructure upgrades to manage the increasing volume of vehicles.

Urban planning experts and transport analysts note that many tourist destinations across Himachal Pradesh face similar challenges as tourism continues to grow faster than road infrastructure capacity. Environmental specialists have also emphasized the need for sustainable mobility solutions that balance tourism development with ecological preservation.

Local residents and tourism stakeholders welcomed the High Court’s intervention, expressing hope that it would accelerate policy decisions and infrastructure improvements. Observers believe the court’s scrutiny could play an important role in shaping future traffic management strategies and enhancing transportation efficiency in the Kasauli region.
