India is increasing its collaboration with Venezuela to find new sources of crude oil and to meet its expanding energy requirements in the face of uncertainty and supply shortages in the energy market.
During the visit of the Acting President of Venezuela Delcy Rodríguez, the senior leaders of both countries had discussions on enhancing energy cooperation, boosting crude oil imports and examining long-term investment opportunities in the energy sector. Collaborations in strategic industries, such as critical minerals, trade and others, were also discussed.
The re-engagement follows a period of sluggish oil supply chain activity as a result of geopolitical issues in various parts of the world. With India being one of the world’s biggest energy consumers, it is also trying to diversify its sources of oil supplies to enhance energy security and lessen reliance on any geographic area.
Venezuela has become an increasing supplier of crude oil to India in recent months. The partnership is “perfect complementarity,” Venezuela has huge oil reserves, India has stable and expanding demand,” officials said.
The visit also had the main objective of identifying potential avenues to increase the presence of Indian enterprises in the upstream and downstream sectors of the energy industry in Venezuela. They talked about possible investments, technology cooperation, long-term commercial relationships, etc., which would be beneficial to both countries.
The strengthening ties are seen as a part of India’s plan to create a more resilient energy grid in a volatile global landscape. As India’s energy demand is projected to increase over the near years, increased cooperation with countries like Venezuela with rich energy resources could be an important factor in securing energy supply stability for the Indian economy.
