External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held high-level talks with Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper on various bilateral and international topics as India and the UK take a major step toward enhancing their strategic partnership.
A discussion on improving cooperation in trade, investment, maritime security, technology and economic development highlighted an India-UK partnership in a more interdependent world. Both the leaders also discussed progress on the ambitious India-UK Vision 2035 roadmap, which seeks to enhance relations in various areas over the coming decade.
The talks were considered by leaders from both sides of the border as positive and promising. An ongoing priority was trade and economic relations, where both sides continued to look for ways to increase opportunities for businesses, attract investments, and enhance the resiliency of supply chains. India’s growth as one of the world’s fastest expanding major economies is a tremendous opportunity for greater economic engagement with the UK.
The security of the seas also was among the issues that were prominent in the talks. India and the United Kingdom reiterated their efforts towards strengthening cooperation in the field of shipping to ensure a free, open and secure maritime environment, with global shipping routes gaining significance in the current times, as well as in the context of regional stability.
The meeting underscores the mutual desire of the two countries to strengthen their cooperation for global challenges such as economic uncertainty, climate change and geopolitical changes. Those who believe that goodwill between the two capitals could play a pivotal role in the regional and international stability, are expecting a more closer cooperation between New Delhi and London.
According to diplomatic observers, the India-UK relationship has progressed beyond the realm of mere political interaction and extends to trade, innovation, education, defense, people-to-people ties, and other areas. This is expected to be further accelerated through the Vision 2035.
The talks come as both countries push forward their cooperation, and they demonstrate their willingness to turn their partnership into a more robust and resilient one that benefits their business, citizens, and future generations in both countries.
