Strong emotions were reportedly visible at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, after two accused in the Janaki Das cashier murder case were brought to the hospital for medical treatment following injuries sustained during a police operation.
The accused, identified as Aryan Sharma and Sunny Mehra, were taken to PGIMER after being injured during a police-led operation linked to the ongoing murder investigation. According to reports, the two men waited for nearly two hours before undergoing X-ray examinations and other medical procedures, drawing attention from hospital staff and members of the public present at the facility.
The murder of Janaki Das, a cashier whose killing had sparked widespread concern in Chandigarh, has generated significant public anger. Reports indicate that emotions were particularly intense at PGIMER because Janaki Das’s wife is employed at the institution. Witnesses claimed that some individuals expressed frustration toward the accused while they were being treated. However, no official institution-wide position was associated with such reactions.
Hospital authorities ensured that the accused received necessary medical care in accordance with established protocols. Healthcare experts emphasize that medical institutions are legally and ethically required to provide treatment to all patients, irrespective of the allegations against them or the nature of the criminal charges they may face.
The case remains under active investigation. Chandigarh Police had earlier arrested Aryan Sharma and Sunny Mehra in Jammu and Kashmir before bringing them to Chandigarh for further questioning. Authorities have stated that evidence collection, forensic analysis, and witness examinations are continuing.
Legal experts note that healthcare professionals are expected to maintain neutrality even in emotionally charged situations. Medical ethicists and community leaders have also stressed the importance of balancing public sentiment with professional responsibilities and patient rights.
Police officials have reiterated that the accused remain under investigation and that all allegations against them will be subject to judicial scrutiny. The case continues to draw significant public attention as investigators work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the murder.
