Youths staged a peaceful protest in Gatauli village of Jind district on Thursday against the alleged lathi-charge on students at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. The demonstrators gathered beneath the village flyover, raised slogans against the government, and condemned the reported use of force on students, calling it a violation of democratic rights.
The protesters said that students were peacefully voicing their demands and that the alleged police action against them was unfortunate and unacceptable. They stressed that every citizen in a democracy has the right to express their views and hold peaceful demonstrations without fear of violence.
Addressing the gathering, participants alleged that instead of resolving students’ concerns through dialogue, the authorities resorted to force, a move they said could deepen dissatisfaction among young people. They further claimed that the government’s approach reflected a lack of sensitivity towards students and youth.
The demonstrators urged the government to engage in meaningful discussions with students and address their concerns rather than relying on police action. They said attempts to suppress the voices of young people were inconsistent with democratic values.
The protesters also demanded an impartial inquiry into the Jantar Mantar incident and strict action against officials found responsible for the alleged lathi-charge. They appealed to the Central Government to ensure that such incidents do not recur in the future.
The protest concluded peacefully. Before dispersing, the youths warned that if students continued to face similar treatment, they would intensify their movement in the coming days. They emphasized that students and young people are the nation’s future and that safeguarding their dignity and democratic rights is the government’s responsibility.
