Kullu | July 8: A cloudburst in the Garsa Valley of Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district caused widespread damage after heavy rain triggered flash floods in the area. The sudden surge of water swept away around 10 small bridges, damaged roads, and created panic among local residents. Following the incident, several families left their homes and moved to safer places as a precaution.
The cloudburst led to a sharp rise in the water level of local streams. Within a short time, muddy water, rocks, and debris spread across the valley. As a result, road connectivity was affected, making it difficult for people to travel between nearby villages.
Villagers Leave Homes for Safety
The flood-like situation forced many residents to act quickly. Several families shifted to safer locations after water entered nearby areas. Although there were no immediate reports of casualties, the disaster caused significant damage to public infrastructure and local property.
In addition, farmland and village roads suffered damage due to the strong flow of water. Residents said the water level increased rapidly, leaving very little time to protect their belongings.
Rescue Teams Reach the Affected Area
Soon after receiving information about the cloudburst, district officials, police personnel, and disaster response teams reached the affected villages. They started assessing the damage and monitoring the situation closely.
Meanwhile, restoration work has also begun. Teams are clearing blocked roads and inspecting damaged bridges to restore connectivity as quickly as possible. Officials are also keeping a close watch on nearby areas where the risk of further flooding remains.
Administration Issues Safety Advisory
The administration has appealed to people to remain alert, especially as the India Meteorological Department has predicted more rainfall in several parts of Himachal Pradesh over the coming days. Residents have been advised to avoid rivers, streams, and landslide-prone areas during heavy rain.
People have also been asked to avoid unnecessary travel until weather conditions improve. Authorities continue to monitor the situation and have assured residents that all possible assistance will be provided if required.
The latest cloudburst is another reminder of the challenges the monsoon season brings to the hill state. Officials have urged everyone to stay updated through official advisories and follow all safety instructions.
